Environmental Impacts

Since Nanotechnology as well as Nanomedicine is an emerging field of science, only little information could be acquired for the past decade. Environmental influences are yet to be seen, however, scientists made inferences that while Nanomedicine could raise living standards, it could also bring us some downsides. It is classified into mainly three environmental effects:
1. Waste Disposal
Have you ever imagine after all those nanomedicine was being tested, where would they be disposed to? Some factories with conscience would properly destroy the remains of the chemicals under the supervision of the law. However, there are always companies that do not abide the law and dispose chemicals through factory drainage and into the ocean causing water contamination and destruction in the natural habitats. Similarly, companies could dump these wastes on land directly to the landfill, speeding up the mounting pile of refuse.
2. Water Contamination
One of the consequences of excessive waste disposal is water pollution. The results of water contamination include the destruction of aquatic life cycles and serious pollution of fresh water. The death of aquatic organisms might disrupt the lives of sea animals, affecting the food chain as well as fishers income. The death of marine creatures decreases the amount of seafood sold in markets, causing a rise in seafood price. The contamination of water might also affect water quality that people from the third world use. Without proper filtration, there's a high risk of waterborne diseases.
2. Air Pollution
The familiar concept of air pollution is the emission of factory gases. Firstly, these gases would enhance greenhouse effect, leading to global warming. Secondly, it is still unknown that whether or not the emission these factories manufacturing nanomedicine are toxic or not. Thirdly, as nanotechnology is being more and more popular in the medical field. There is a high possibility that more and more factories would be constructed to manufacture nanomedicines. This results in the destruction of natural habitats causing more animals to distinct.
