What are other options in using this money?

According to the National Nanotechnology Initiative (NNI), the total amount government spent on nanomedicine is 1496.3 million USD in 2015 and a decreasing estimated amount of 1434.7 million USD in 2016. It is proposed to spent less in 2017. With about 1450 million USD, what exactly can we do with this money? Are there any other options to better use this money? Advancement in technology is important. However, is it necessary to invest so much money in this new emerging field? "Scientist are focused on whether they can do something. They never stop to ask if they should do something..." - Michael Crichton - Jurassic Park.

Education

As a high school student, there are lots of limitations in the school's facility. Chromebooks are constantly found damaged and yet to be repaired, in class textbooks sets are decreasing in number etc. As a country, education should be considered as its first priority because children are pillars to support the country in the future. In addition, educational environments should be a professional place for students to grow and learn. All the money that we invest in education today will be paid once students are educated properly with unlimited resources and make contributions when they join the work force.

Environmental Conservation

The next thing we can do with is to preserve the nature. As population grows, more lands are used for housing and agriculture. However, some places held important habitats to animals and the government should regulate agencies developing in these areas. In short terms, it is necessary for land development to meet the demands of housings. But, once these natural habitats are destroyed, restoration is almost impossible. According to the WWF, it is estimated that around 200 to 2000 species extinct every year. The extinction of animals would eventually destroy the food chain and threaten human beings

A helping hand

For the past century, humans have been living happily even without the invention of nanotechnology, but children in third-world countries are barely surviving. Even though this is not an issue related to our own people, but as a human with conscience, is it really humane to enjoy our life while others are suffering in other parts of the world?
